How to Make the Crooked Straight
I have been amazed over the years at times with my ability to eyeball something and get it right, or very close to right. However, I have also been amazed at how many times I would have taken an oath that my eyeball had the thing straight when it was actually crooked as a snake. My point is, when it has to be straight, I use something a bit more dependable than my eyeball. In our message this weekwe hear from a guy named Amos (his name means burdened). Amos was a jack of all trades, agricultural guy. He had sheep, cattle, and crops, and out of nowhere God called him to be a prophet to Israel (the Northern Kingdom). I do not know if you know this or not but prophets were not generally called to bring good news! Often their news was not encouraging words! Like a faithful follower of the one true God, Amos accepts the call and then works to straighten out a crooked bunch.
